Challenge old perceptions and explore new perspectives

The Launch event for the Community Sector Coalition’s Liberating Leadership programme will take place on Friday 20th November 2009 at Toynbee Hall in London.

As active members of the Coalition the ECA has contributed insights with regard to the development of the toolkit and within the steering group.

Liberating Leadership is a ground-breaking practical approach that has been developed to recognise and support leadership in community groups and collective community activities. It is about leadership in networks and neighbourhoods, street events and sports clubs, parishes and partnerships, temples and tenants associations, festivals and fetes, music groups and mosques.

The seminar will be a participative event that explores the meaning of leadership in a community-setting and provides an opportunity to examine the Liberating Leadership model in more detail.

The Community Sector Coalition is extremely pleased that Debra Allcock-Tyler will be the key speaker at the seminar. She is currently Chief Executive of the Directory of Social Change, and well-known author of ‘It’s Tough at the Top’ a book about leadership in the third sector. As Chair of the Small Charities Coalition she also demonstrates her support of the grassroots community sector.

ECA Chair & CEO Bernard Godding says of the Liberating Leadership toolkit ”I am especially pleased that the values and approaches of the community sector are so strongly reflected in the presentation of these new materials and very much hope they can be used to strengthen local organisations for the important role they fulfil.
