Free educational events run by the community for the community
Tonight will see the BIG launch of Free University Brighton. It has been inspired by the ‘Occupy’ movement, the free school movement of the late 18th and early 19th Centuries and other contemporary free universities around the world. It aims to create more democratic educational experiences where teachers and students learn from each other. What’s on offer is decided by local people and placed into the heart the community by making use of existing public spaces.
Free university Brighton will publicise and facilitate free educational events across the City including courses, practical workshops, introductory taster sessions, lectures, talks, discussion and debate… It could be any subject, at any level. Anything that enables people to think, develop, learn, enquire, question the world around us and, above all, explore how it could be different and better.
If you live in or near the city and want to get involved by taking part as a learner, volunteering to teach, offering spaces suitable for learning or suggesting ideas for courses you can get in touch with the organisers by visiting http://www.freeuniversitybrighton.org/contact/
