Information needed on skills sharing from those aged 50+
UK Older People’s Day coincides with the International Day of the Older Person. It aims to celebrate the achievements and contributions that older people make to our society and to the economy. This year it is on 1st October and is about sharing skills and experience either within the 50+ age group or between generations. There are 4 proposed areas to celebrate the contribution older people already make, and arrange new opportunities for your own age group or different generations to share skills, time and experience. These areas are:
- Work e.g. host a skills swap shop where younger and older people learn new skills from each other
- Home and family e.g. open up school breakfast clubs to local older people who can listen to children read
- Volunteering e.g. clean up a local park together so older and younger people can share it for sport and recreation
- Leisure and sport e.g. a Wii tournament for teams of mixed age groups
The survey needs to be completed by 13th September 2012. Its results will help to collate evidence of older people’s views around skill sharing with other generations and activity on 1st October.
