ECA welcomes New Vice President

David Anderson OBE

The ECA is delighted to welcome David Anderson OBE, Director General of Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum of Wales, as its new Vice President.

Of his new role David says "I am delighted to become Vice-President of the Educational Centres Association. The adult education movement in Britain has a long and honourable tradition of opening opportunities for a wide cross-section of our communities. It’s work, at a time of reduced resources for education, is as necessary now as it has ever been."

David is an established authority on learning initiatives in museums and has advised Government on projects such as the national museum and gallery education strategy.

Prior to his appointment at Amgueddfa Cymru David spent 20 years at the V&A starting as Head of Education, where he created the first team dedicated to community education in a UK national museum, and finishing as the Director of Learning and Interpretation. He led the development of the V&A’s Sackler Centre for Arts Education and received an OBE in 1999 for services to museums and education.

Bernard Godding, ECA Chair & CEO, says “David has huge insights and an outstanding track record in developing an adult learning agenda within the museum and cultural sector. We are especially fortunate that he has agreed to become our Vice President at the time of his transition to this seminal role in Wales".
