Successful launch of Flexi-Path Toolkit
Flexi-Path approach welcomed by adult education practitioners
ECA Chair & CEO Bernard Godding and ECA Flexi-Path Researcher Trish Kreft helped to launch the Flexi-Path Toolkit at the 'Senior Adult Educators - Recognising their competences' conference held in Bonn, Germany on 20th September 2010.
The toolkit is the main output of the Leonardo funded Flexi-Path project which started in early 2009 and finishes at the end of September 2010. The project focused on developing a systematic approach to showing the degree level competences of senior adult educators within the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
The partnership, made up of senior adult education specialists from Europe, combined their knowledge and experience to define the competences needed by those working in this field at EQF Level 6 & 7.
The Toolkit, which is written by Bernard, Trish and ECA Flexi-Path Researcher Karen Read, is aimed at adult education practitioners with substantial experience who are usually employed at management / leadership level. It gives users a chance to build a professional portfolio that reflects the competences they have gained throughout their career and highlight areas in which they may want to develop their skills. The toolkit may also be used within organisations and teams as a means of reviewing overall strengths.
Bernard and Trish gave a joint presentation during the conference about the strengths of the Toolkit and contexts in which it may be used. To see their presentation click here.
Delegates at the conference were given the opportunity to try out sections of the Toolkit in an afternoon workshop. The feedback from this suggests that the Toolkit will be welcomed by many senior adult education practitioners.
Bernard Godding said â€It was an exciting challenge to put 40 years of experience into a book and something I probably wouldn’t have done without the project. â€
Kerry Gray from Leicester, representing an ECA Member organisation, spoke from the platform about the experience of working with the Toolkit. Trustee Judith Robinson was also present at the event.
The Toolkit will be launched in the UK as part of the ‘Shaping Excellence in Leadership’ event. This takes place on 12th October at Leicester Adult Education College. There will be a workshop during the day to demonstrate how the Toolkit works.
